All kitchen and bath cabinets are not created equal. You can get what seems like a good deal from big box stores, but the quality is lacking. They usually build the cabinet boxes with particle board or melamine which are both made with formaldehyde and will off gas in your house for months if not years. These products will disintegrate with a small amount water, which can be a huge problem if you ever develop a leak.
At Heritage Home we only use cabinet grade plywood with a wonderfully durable finish. Water likes to bead up on the surface and even if the cabinets get soaked, it would take weeks for any real damage to occur.
In addition, the finish that we use is a water-borne lacquer that bonds well to wood and creates a hard shell like finish that is durable without the harsh chemicals that others employ to accomplish the same finish.
